Voice Inspections

Voice Inspections let you record an inspection by talking, so you can keep your gloves on and your smoker lit. BeeKeepPal transcribes what you say and fills in the inspection form for you to check before saving.

To record a voice inspection

  1. Open the beehive you are inspecting.
  2. Tap Add Inspection, then choose Voice.
  3. Allow microphone access the first time you are asked.
  4. Tap record and describe what you see, in your own words.
  5. Tap stop when you are done.
  6. Review the filled-in form. Correct anything that was misheard or missed.
  7. Tap Save.

What to say

Speak naturally, as you would to another beekeeper. Mention the details your inspection form asks for, for example:

  • “Queen seen, eggs and young larvae present, good brood pattern.”
  • “Seven frames of bees, two frames of capped honey, temperament calm.”
  • “No queen cells. A few mites on drones. Fed one litre of syrup.”

If you use a custom inspection form, your answers are matched to its fields.

Tips

  • Turn your back to the wind and keep the phone a short distance from your mouth.
  • Pause briefly between topics. It helps the transcription separate your answers.
  • Fields you don’t mention are left blank, so you can fill them in by hand.

Limits

Hobbyist accounts include 30 Hive Scans and Voice Inspections. Pro and Pro Team plans are unlimited. On all plans, one voice inspection per beehive per day.
